The museum opened its doors in 2005 to showcase the photography of Gary Marlon Suson, who chronicled the courageous recovery efforts of the FDNY and other Ground Zero workers in the nine months following September 11, 2001.
"Since we opened last year, we have had many tourists from all over the world that could not speak English and who could only look at the images but not understand the stories behind them," stated Suson, who acts as the museum's curator. The Ground Zero Museum Workshop needed to provide translations and voiceover work for multilingual self-guided tours.
Translations.com provided content to the museum in multiple languages. About the Ground Zero Museum Workshop
Located in the Meatpacking district, just one mile from Ground Zero, the Ground Zero Museum Workshop has daily guided tours and is a not-for-profit organization that aims to educate the public about the valiant recovery efforts of the FDNY and other recovery workers in the months following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. All photography in the museum is by Gary Marlon Suson, who was named Official Photographer at Ground Zero for the Uniformed Firefighters Association & Uniformed Fire Officers Association in November 2001. He was appointed to the rank of Honorary Battalion Chief in 2004 by FDNY Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta for his solidarity with the FDNY. Josh Gibson of Fox News Channel dubbed Mr. Suson the "Matthew Brady of the World Trade Center," referring to the famed Civil War photographer who single-handedly documented battlefield scenes. His image collection was also dubbed "Rare Photos" by the New York Times in 2002. Mr. Suson no longer shoots photography for either fire union.
