GlobalLink™ Content Director

Q: What is GlobalLink Term Manager?

A: GlobalLink Term Manager is a web-based tool that gives you the ability to easily manage preferred terminology in multiple languages.

Q: Is GlobalLink Term Manager the same as Translation Memory?

A: No. Translation Memory allows you to quickly re-use large amounts of content to reduce cost, accelerate turnaround times and maintain consistency. Term Manager is designed to give you quick access to individual terms and phrases.

Q: Is Term Manager just a glossary?

A: Term Manager is much more than just a glossary because it gives you the ability to quickly access, modify, search or delete existing terms. It can create internal workflows, as well as initiate review cycles for new translations of your terminology. More importantly, you can share a single set of terms across the enterprise.

Q: Why is sharing terminology over the Internet important?

A: Unlike a traditional "glossary", where one file (usually an Excel spreadsheet) is passed around via email to multiple contacts within an organization, people can access Term Manager through a secure web browser. This ensures that everyone is looking at the most recent version of terminology and helps to maintain consistency. It also eliminates the unnecessary file traffic and email threads associated with a single file. As new terms are added, workflows are created within Term Manager to notify internal resources if a translation is required, so there is a higher level of visibility and accountability for all parties involved.

Q: Can I search Term Manager?

A: You get "Google" style search functionality. Searches can be conducted for terms or keywords in source or target languages. Results can also be displayed with multiple language equivalents in a single window.

Q: Are there different levels of user access?

A: Yes. Users can be classified as Contributors, meaning they can add terms in English and request translations, Translators, or Administrators. Granting different levels of access and permission ensures that only qualified users are able to modify existing terminology.

Q: How complicated is a Term Manager installation?

A: Since Term Manager is a fully-hosted solution, all we need to do to get you using the application is give you the url and set you up with user names and passwords. There is no IT involvement or support required on
your side.

Q: How do I schedule a demo of Term Manager?

A: You can contact your local client service office or you can request a demo online.

GlobalLink™ TM Server

Q: What is GlobalLink TM Server?

A: GlobalLink TM Server is a solution that allows translation memory assets to be shared across a global organization, in real-time. GlobalLink TM Server eliminates the need to have individual translation memory files on different desktops or reside at multiple language service providers, allowing disparate groups of users to leverage assets simultaneously from anywhere in the world. Internal project managers can quickly analyze and pre-translate content to reduce translation costs and accelerated turnaround times.

Q: If my organization already uses translation memory, would we still have a need for TM Server?

A: TM Server is designed for customers who wish to maintain their own translation memory assets. If you have a dedicated internal translation department that works with multiple localization vendors or with in-house or in-country resources, TM Server can help you manage your Translation Memory more efficiently, resulting in reduced costs, faster turnaround times, and consistency across your content. Any company that has multiple internal points of contact that are entering new terms and approving translations can benefit from TM Server.

Q: How is TM Server different from Term Manager?

A: TM Server is a powerful application that allows for rapid batch processing of file submissions. Most of the processes within TM Server are automated. It is designed to analyze large amounts of content quickly and determine where previously translated content can be re-purposed. TM Server works at the sentence level, while Term Manager operates at the term or phase level.

Term Manager is designed as a searchable glossary of terms and phrases. Content must be input manually. There are no automatic processes associated with Term Manager as all functions must be initiated by the user. Term Manager allows people to access consistent terminology companywide.

Q: Does GlobalLink TM Server require me to purchase a separate database license?

A: Unlike other server-based Translation Memory applications, GlobalLink TM Server does not require you to purchase any additional database licenses. By eliminating the need for separate database licensing, client costs are kept to a minimum. Just as importantly, client IT dependencies are eliminated since all functionality is available via a hosted application model.

Q: Does GlobalLink TM Server integrate with other GlobalLink software applications?

A: It currently is integrated into the GlobalLink Content Director and GlobalLink Project Director workflows. When a file is submitted through the Content Director or Project Director interface, content is processed against the existing translation memory in the TM Server. Leveraged content is populated into the document automatically, so that the translator only needs to work with new text. Detailed cost estimates can also be instantly generated that indicate precise breakdowns of leveraged content.

Q: Can I import my existing Translation Memory into GlobalLink TM Server?

A: Absolutely. GlobalLink TM Server supports any Translation Memory file that is in .TMX format. TMX is a universal file format that can be exported from any other Translation Memory application, such as Trados, SDLX or Déjà vu.

Q: Do I need to use your language services in order to install GlobalLink TM Server?

A: No. GlobalLink TM Server is designed to be completely flexible. It can be incorporated into our ISO-certified, award-winning language services workflow, or it can be a stand-alone tool that integrates with other internal or external resources.

Q: How do I schedule a demo of TM Server?

A: You can contact your local client service office or you can request a demo online.

GlobalLink™ Portal

Q: What is the GlobalLink Portal?

A: The GlobalLink Portal is a web-based tool that allows you to submit, track, and receive projects. Because it is a completely hosted solution, it requires no technical overhead or IT involvement. The portal also serves as a document library for all projects you submit for translation. You are then able to reference completed projects and access project information, as well as source and target language files at your convenience.

Q: What types of users have installed the GlobalLink Portal?

A: The portal is designed to help your manage frequent submissions of small files. In a decentralized environment (many different contributors within the same company) it is designed to give you a single, consistent location to manage translation projects. If you are submitting more than 5-10 projects per month via email, you might want to consider the Portal. If you are using a CMS or database, see the FAQ’s on GlobalLink Content Director and Project Director.

Q: What are the key features of the Portal?

A: Ease of use. You can be up and running on the portal within hours. Hosted solution. No IT involvement or IT support required. Reduces internal project management. You can get a quick and clear view of all translation activity without having to sort through emails and other correspondence. You can also track project status quickly and reference previously translated content (and corresponding source files).

Q: Can I request quotes through the Portal?

A: Yes. You can submit a document for quotation through the portal. The portal will route the document either to your Account Executive or Account Manager who will review and manually resubmit the quote back to you.

Q: How can I access the Portal?

A: The portal can be accessed from anywhere in the world via a web-browser. It can also be easily linked into corporate intranets and extranets, providing a consistent place to submit and track translation projects.

Q: How secure is the Portal?

A: All interactions with the portal take place using 128-bit SSL strong encryption.

Q: Are there any limitations on usage?

A: No. The portal can support an unlimited number of users and languages. Additionally, there is no limit on the amount of translated content we can store for you within the portal.

Q: Is this strictly an "out of the box" solution, or can I customize?

A: The basic technical infrastructure for the portal will remain the same for everyone. However, you may insert your organization’s logos and company-specific branding information. Additionally, a limited number of custom data fields can be configured for each customer. Customers typically use these fields to enter a Department Name, a Customer Document Tracking Number, to specify whether Certifications are required, etc. Depending on your own requirements, we can also provide a limited amount of customization for an additional cost. Examples of customization include specialized reporting, email notifications to alert changes in project status, and the ability to track departmental translation expenditures.

Q: How do I schedule a demo of the Portal?

A: You can contact your local client service office or you can request a demo online.

GlobalLink™ Project Director

Q: What is GlobalLink Project Director?

A: GlobalLink Project Director is a hosted application that gives you powerful workflow management for translation efforts in a Software as a Service platform (SaaS). Submissions to Project Director are made using its Web Services API, allowing clients to invoke translation workflows for content residing in multiple repositories such as databases, content management systems and document management systems. Project Director is also directly integrated with GlobalLink TM Server.

Q: So what is the difference between Content Director and Project Director?

A: Project Director is a hosted application while Content Director is installed on your server. Content Director is installed with adaptors that integrate directly into your content repositories, enabling the flow of data between your side and ours. This also extends to actual UI integration in the case of CMS systems. Because Project Director is hosted, there are no adaptors.

Q: Who is Project Director designed for?

A: Project Director is designed for clients who do not want any outside applications installed on their system. By offering workflow management capabilities in a hosted, SaaS solution, we solve that issue. Project Director is also designed more for projects that are of high-volume, and/or faster turnaround time where the file type is fairly consistent.

Q: What is the difference between the Portal and Project Director?

A: Project Director offers much more automated workflow capabilities. As mentioned above, it is also intended more for situations where extremely rapid turnaround times are required, and where the file types are more specialized and consistent. The Portal is designed for simple drag and drop of project files from a desktop or file system. Project Director’s payload system is automated via Web Services, where the portal requires manual upload and download. Content submitted to the portal tends to live on file systems; content for Project Director tends to live in databases or CMS systems. Project Director is integrated with TM Server, the portal is not.

Q: How do I schedule a demo of Project Director?

A: You can contact your local client service office or you can request a demo online.
