Small To Mid-size Companies Champions Of New Jobs

Inc. Magazine's Hire Power Awards Recognizes America's Leading Job Creators

PR Newswire - October 29, 2013

NEW YORK -- The latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the summer slowdown continued into September, with employers adding barely 148,000 jobs—only 126,000 of which came out of the business sector. This weak showing makes the accomplishments of the honorees of Inc. magazine's HIRE POWER AWARDS that much more critical. The top 100 companies cited for job creation produced 51, 327 jobs between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. The numbers become even more impressive when you look closer—the top job creator, Universal Services of America added 14,240 employees to a workforce of 35,000; second-place Vivint added 1,943 to 6,496 and third-place Heartland Dental Care added 1,759 to 4,965. These small to mid-sized companies and other Inc. HIRE POWER AWARDS honorees more just like them could hold the key to restoring America's economic vitality.

"For the second year in a row, we are pleased to recognize the employers who are putting Americans back to work," says Eric Schurenberg, Editor-in-Chief of Inc. "The HIRE POWER AWARDS are the only awards that single out job creators. We think it's fitting to pay tribute to company founders not just for their business prowess but also for their immense contribution to the welfare of U.S. workers and the vitality of the U.S. economy."

Among the noteworthy companies profiled in Inc.'s November issue are TransPerfect of New York City, a translation service that began in a New York University dorm room and today has 1,572 U.S.-based employees including 489 new jobs added. Urban Lending Solutions of Pittsburgh, begun by a former football running back gifted at finding top-notch talent in unusual places, has added 1,022 new jobs to a workforce of 1,564 employees. The Cincinnati-based freight broker Total Quality Logistics employs recent graduates—many of who are former college athletes—and veterans who have the discipline to come in early and get the job done right to create 642 new jobs in a workforce of 2,316.

They are just three of 437 private growth companies that are Inc. HIRE POWER AWARDS honorees, leading the way in creating more American jobs. While the honorees are found across the country in 25 categories, industries with the most Hire Power companies include health, financial services, software, human resources and IT services. States with the most honorees include CaliforniaFloridaTexasOhioNew YorkMassachusettsIllinois and Utah.

"At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, we understand the vital role of small and mid-sized businesses in the local economy," said George Smith, head of Business Banking, Bank of America Merrill Lynch.  "And we are proud to partner with Inc. to sponsor the Hire Power Awards to recognize these business leaders."

The IncHIRE POWER AWARDS recognize American companies that have greatly increased their workforces. The award ceremony, sponsored by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, will take place November 12, 2013 in San Francisco.
