Opodo
Background
Opodo is a Pan-European company owned by nine of Europe's leading airlines-Aer Lingus, Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, KLM, and Lufthansa-in collaboration with Amadeus GDS, a travel industry technology provider. Opodo offers a full complement of competitively priced online services for world travel, including access to flights from over 500 airlines, over 65,000 hotel properties, and over 7,000 car rental locations.
Challenge
Opodo's aim was to put travelers in control by giving them the tools, information, and inspiration needed to make their own choices with maximum efficiency and satisfaction. Thus, the challenge was to create a service-oriented site uniting a complex database with simplicity of use, especially to international markets.
- Under tight time restrictions, over 1 million words needed to be localized within a dynamic authoring process, as well as within a number of different projects.
- Previous online content had been authored by non-English speaking staff and required the creation of more highly branded content for global functions.
- Most challenging, however, was the need to seamlessly merge localized content with pre-existing content management workflows.
Solution
As a leader in technology practices, Translations.com worked with Opodo to create a portfolio of projects designed to ease their global concerns.
- Translations.com appointed a dedicated and knowledgeable team of linguists to maintain consistency from project to project.
- A three-stage language review was initiated to ensure that content integrated flawlessly into Opodo's content management systems.
- Created content templates to be used for all countries as a method of reinforcing continuity and the localization process.
- A glossary of terms was developed to leverage costs and maintain consistency throughout the timeline of the current project as well as future projects.
As a result of the partnership between Opodo and Translations.com, British English, German, and French are currently supported on Opodo's website. Translations.com was instrumental in streamlining the efficiency of localization from concept to conclusion, and is proud to continue to work together to develop better models with faster turnaround times.
